Seven individuals were injured after a crash in Colorado on Nov. 7 when one of two cars that may have been in a street race hit a vehicle in the opposite lane. One racing vehicle left the scene of the accident, and police are searching for the car and its driver.
According to a Colorado State Patrol representative, the accident happened on northbound Federal Boulevard in Denver at about 8 p.m. At one point, a Volvo, which authorities believe reached speeds of about 100 mph, hit the other racing vehicle, lost control and crossed into southbound Federal Boulevard. The Volvo then crashed head-on into a Nissan Altima traveling south.
Sources indicate that two people were ejected from their vehicles. All four occupants in the Nissan, including the driver, were taken to the Denver Medical Center. The following day, the driver’s condition was listed as fair, and one passenger remained in serious condition. The driver of the Volvo, identified as a 28-year-old man, was also hospitalized and was listed in good condition on Nov. 8. One of the passengers in his car was also listed in serious condition. Police did not say if the Volvo driver will be facing any charges or citations.
Reckless driving like in this case could lead to a serious motor vehicle accident where other motorists are seriously injured. The victims may face expenses associated with lost wages and medical care. An attorney may assist the individuals in filing a personal injury suit against the at-fault driver to recover such damages.
