Colorado State Troopers report that an accident on E-470 in Aurora during the afternoon hours of June 7 left two people injured and one dead. Authorities do not believe that weather conditions, alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal crash.

According to reports, the two-car accident occurred around 4 p.m. when a man driving eastbound on E-470 lost control of his vehicle, spun out and overturned. His car then came to rest off of the roadway nearby 6th Parkway. One adolescent passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown in the impact and died instantly, and another adolescent passenger in the same vehicle was injured.

First responders to the scene took the adolescent passenger to Children’s Hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries. The driver, who was reportedly the father of at least one of the passengers, was also injured. The other driver who was involved in the accident was unhurt. At the time of the report, the investigation was still underway.

In many cases, motor vehicle accidents are the result of a driver’s irresponsibility and carelessness. Texting or tending to a GPS device or radio are some of the distractions that can cause a driver to become distracted. Those who are injured in such an accident often face costly medical procedures, and some suffer further financial harm due to an inability to regain employment for prolonged periods. An attorney for an injured victim can often examine police investigation reports in making a determination as to whether the driver failed to observe the proper standard of care and should thus be held financially responsible for the victim’s damages.
